The number of report cards for incomplete courses quadrupled at Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles last fall compared to 2019 due to COVID-19.
If there was no significant difference in class dropouts by the September 20 deadline, the number of incomplete classes registered at the end of the semester has been multiplied by 4.
This increase also has an effect on the success rate of students, which rose from 90% to 83% on average.
Jean Gagné explains this situation by the measures implemented to counter COVID-19 which were difficult for the students.
For these reasons, the Ministry of Higher Education has modified this year the criteria for having access to an incomplete to avoid a higher failure rate among young people in difficulty.
