70-year-old Edmonton male deceased following fatal climbing accident at Maligne Canyon, Jasper – Canada Police Report

Jasper, Alberta – On Feb. 17, 2021, at approximately 1:35 p.m., Jasper RCMP, along with the Parks Canada Visitor Safety and Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of a 70-year-old male from Edmonton, who had accidentally fallen during an ice climb in Maligne Canyon near the 5th Bridge.

Efforts to provide first aide by bystanders were unsuccessful and the male was deceased at the scene. A helicopter contracted by Parks Canada attended to extract the male from Maligne Canyon.

The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.
