Autopsy results confirm 20-year-old male died from a gunshot wound


Edmonton, Alberta – An autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiner earlier today confirmed that Ibrahim Abdihakim Omar, 20, of Edmonton, died from a gunshot wound with the manner of death being homicide.

The Edmonton Police Service’s Homicide Section continues to investigate this shooting incident, which occurred early last Friday in northwest Edmonton.

Background:

At approximately 3:50 a.m., Friday, March 26, 2021, Northwest Division patrol members responded to a weapons complaint in an alley near 103 Street and 132 Avenue. It was reported to police that gunshots were heard being fired in the alley.

Two males were treated and transported to hospital by paramedics; one with non-life-threatening injuries, the second male in critical condition.

The second complainant, a 20-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Saturday, March 27, 2021.
