COVID-19 cost $ 56M in the region

Health costs for the Gaspé since the start of the pandemic will reach $ 56M by March 31, according to CISSS projections.

The Gaspésie Integrated Health and Social Services Center specifies that the Covid-19 resulted in additional expenses equivalent to 15% of its annual budget of $ 365M for 2020-2021.

The director of financial resources, Jean-Pierre Colette, explains that the first two and a half weeks of the first wave of COVID-19 cost $ 2.1M in operating costs. According to the projection, this amount should reach $ 50M by next March 31:

According to Jean-Pierre Colette, the figures are important for the region which was all in all less badly conducted than other places where costs have exploded up to 30%. The additional expenses of $ 56M will be paid for by the Government of Quebec.
