Edmonton, Alberta – Amin Yussuf, 30, who was wanted on Canada-wide warrants in connection to the 2019 shooting death of 26-year-old Abubeker Gemechu Abduraman has been arrested.
On March 24, 2019, the Edmonton Police Service responded to a weapons complaint at Xhale Lounge (8120 101 Street). Upon arrival, investigators located Abduraman deceased inside the lounge. Two other individuals were also shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.
In January of 2020, the EPS partnered with the BOLO Program on this specific file to complement police efforts in locating the accused. The BOLO Program, in cooperation with the Crime Stoppers Association of Edmonton and Northern Alberta, offered a reward up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest of Yussuf.
On Friday, Feb. 26, 2021 just after 7 a.m., Coquitlam RCMP responded to the report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in Coquitlam, British Columbia. The male suspect, later determined to be Amin Yussuf, was arrested for obstruction and transported to the local police detachment where his identity was confirmed through fingerprints.
Yussuf was then arrested on the outstanding warrants issued by the EPS in relation to the March 24, 2019 shooting incident. The charges he is facing include first degree murder, attempted murder using a firearm (x2) and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Yussuf was transported back to Edmonton earlier today, Wed., March 3, 2021. A court date has not yet been set.
Since Yussuf was not apprehended by means of a tip, no financial reward will be offered through the BOLO Program in this instance. The EPS is grateful to the BOLO program for their partnership in this investigation.
