A combined contribution from the two levels of government totals more than $ 1 million for the improvement and sustainability and productivity of the fish and seafood sector in Quebec.

A total of 13 projects will benefit from these investments, including several in the Gaspé.

Merinov receives more than $ 95,000 for the evaluation of the potential of algae in the manufacture of various foods. The North Atlantic Shrimp from L’Anse-au-Griffon is getting $ 90,000 to optimize its processing chain for “double-freezing” shrimp.

Mathieu Girard’s company is receiving $ 90,000 to develop and test a new sea cucumber dredge in Rivière-au-Renard.

An amount of $ 70,000 is also paid to Pêcheries Danamé in Rivière-au-Renard for the acquisition of an echosounder sensor and an underwater camera to increase the efficiency of shrimp fishing.

In addition, the Regroupement des Pêche Professionnels du Sud de la Gaspésie was awarded $ 100,000 to test a device to reduce cases of whale entanglement.

Finally, the AQIP (Quebec Association of the Fishing Industry) is receiving nearly $ 33,000 for a study on the modernization of groundfish processing plants with a view to resuming redfish fishing.
