In 2019-2020, Gaspésie-les Îles welcomed more people from Lanaudière and the Laurentians.

According to the most recent data from the Institut de la statistique du Québec, the inhabitants of Lanaudière and the Laurentians have shown more interest than before in Gaspésie-les Îles.

As the numbers are still small, it is difficult to determine at this time whether there is a strong trend. Montérégie, the Capitale-Nationale and Montreal nonetheless continue to provide the largest number of newcomers.

However, according to demographer Martine St-Amour, the most recent net migration demonstrates this change:

Each MRC receives a fairly similar proportion of entrants:

The Gaspésiens and Madelinots who decide to leave the region opt mainly for Bas-Saint-Laurent, Quebec and Montérégie.

The net migration of the last year is by far the best result for the Gaspé-les Îles of the last 10 years, all age groups combined.
