Calgary, Alberta – Yesterday, a man lost his life as the result of a driver who we believe was impaired. A pedestrian on a grassy area near a highly populated, inner-city street was struck by a vehicle and we continue to investigate. This is a stark reminder that impaired driving can have dire consequences and our sincere condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends who are grieving his senseless loss.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, a 2020 Ford Ranger, driven by a 38-year-old man, was traveling northbound along Edmonton Trail towards the intersection with Second Avenue N.E., when it left the roadway, driving over the east curb. The Ranger crossed over the sidewalk and continued across a grassy area.

The pedestrian, a 36-year-old man, was standing on the grassy area when he was struck head-on by the truck and thrown a significant distance. The victim suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

After striking the pedestrian, the truck continued across the grassy area and onto the turning area at the end of the cul-de-sac at Second Avenue N.E., where he collided with another vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was unharmed in the collision.
