The general management of 12 CEGEPs in remote regions, including that of the Gaspé and the Islands, form a new provincial group.
This coalition was motivated by the Ministry of Higher Education’s review of the college training offer.
The coalition of 12 CEGEPs suggests that the government ensure the expansion of the training offer, increase the attractive potential by improving infrastructure and promoting student mobility.
According to Yolaine Arseneau, the ministry anticipates an increase in ridership in metropolitan CEGEPs amounting to 25,000 students. In his opinion, remote regions such as ours could contribute to this excess traffic.
In addition to being an alternative to relieve congestion in metropolitan CEGEPs, moving part of the clientele to the regions would be beneficial for certain CEGEPs which have recorded decreases in students for several years.
Yolaine Arseneau affirms that several CEGEPs are not at full capacity, particularly on the various campuses of the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles.
