The coronavirus pandemic caused 3,000 job losses in the Gaspé and Magdalen Islands territory.
This is what emerges from the report made public by the Institut de la statistique du Québec for the labor market in 2020.
For the province as a whole, the number of jobs fell by 210,000, a decrease of 5% compared to 2019, while for the Gaspé and the Islands it stands at 9%. According to labor statistics analyst Luc Cloutier-Villeneuve, young people have been more affected by the context of the pandemic.
He mentioned that the tourism sector, including accommodation and catering, also explains the employment data in the region.
